December 22nd: So remember how we were going to drive to the Thai restaurant in Harvard Square? This was the same day the Red Line derailed. Harvard Square was choked with very-essential buses, serving as Red Line replacements as well as the usual ones that go through Harvard Square (including a derailed electric bus, whose pole had detached from the overhead line). But I had delicious panang curry which was insanely hot.

December 23rd: I don't think we did anything of import, since none of us can remember what we did. Meh.

December 24th: We went to Windsor Button, the local yarn shop downtown. I fondled a lot of very nice yarn but got some very basic stuff, as I am a n00b to knitting.

December 25th: Christmas. We opened the package from Ellen and Greg - nifty stuff, including poetry books and a superhero necktie packaged in a big tin. (Tin containing superhero tie and other things also contained a very large spider, oops.)

December 26th: Gardner Museum. Mom really wanted to go. Was awesome.

December 27th (yesterday): Union Oyster House for lunch. Museum of Science!! Much coolness, including the electrical show (Ellie had seen it before, courtesy of IEEE, and got to go up in the small Faraday cage to get lightning hurled at her, omgcool). Absolutely worth $20.

December 28th (today): Went to the land of big box stores, aka South Bay. Our plans had also included Stop and Shop, but after buying a slow cooker, a garment rack, a sunlight lamp, toilet paper and paper towels, a blender, and a compound miter saw... there was officially no more room in Ellie's Subaru. Including room for people.

Tomorrow is for Ikea. o_O

Five Notes While Waiting for Lunch
by Jessica M ([info]shinysayyadina)
at December 28th, 2009 (11:46 am)

So, hungry and headachy and waiting for lunch. Instead of grumping, am
trying to be positive. Holiday with the biofam went rather well (!)
and I was pleased with that-my younger sister knitted everyone gifts
including a gorgeous capelet for me. Da-yum. It’s giving me
inspiration to keep working for sure! Plus, lovely capelet to wear
(it’s black with white sparkle trim).
I know I need to respond and add friends; I haven’t forgotten, it just
takes a bit since I can only email post from work. I miss the
conversing!
Also, there is a new yarn store right by me—The Yarn Spot. Would
anyone like to journey out to Wheaton and check it out with me after
holiday time? I am currently working on a hat but can always be
tempted by something so pretty (alpaca is my new best friend; I’m also
trying to work on some Noro armwarmers, but knitting in the round is
giving me issues—however, I will keep trying.)
It looks like NYE is going to be quiet-can’t find any parties, get
togethers or activites. Ah well.

So, how goes your Monday?

Goren amish request story
by eames_goren ([info]eames_goren)
at December 27th, 2009 (11:07 pm)

I would like to read a story were there is a case were there is a Murder in the Amish Communitty, a teenage/woman or girl amish could be a victim but survives or she witnesses it, Goren tries to help her, to get her to trust her to help her heal and to solve the case, she is neverous around outsiders. He notices that she has bruises on her wrists/arms and confronts her about it, it could be a friendship or romance story.

Or

This could be another setting story were Eames could be an Amish Woman, Goren could be a a non Amish person who becomes interested in her, and pursues her. His car could brake down by her house and he could ask for help and she gives him shelter.

Yuletide Recs!

We're going to leave town for five days, on an adventure, and I'm leaving my computer at home. So, here are some preliminary Yuletide recs!

Emma

upon what grounds - This is an Emma AU that hits all the right spots for a spooky, delicious delivery. Highly recommended, but I can't tell you more without spoiling it!

Friday Night Lights

Fades, If You Let It - THIS is the FNL future-fic I didn't know I always wanted to read. Tim Riggins is pitch-perfect and you can really feel the whole mood, like you were living it yourself. I haven't watched this season yet, and this reminds me that I can't wait.

Rules - It isn't Yuletide without a good Tyra/Lyla. This reads like summer, easy and a little dreamlike, with the sharp edges of reality poking in.

Gone with the Wind

In Fashion - This one was written for me (I think that may be three GWTW Yuletide fics now!) and it's absolutely to die for. This is Scarlett's story retold through her fashion choices - the evolution and even devolution of her life told by her fashion sense, is always there in the book and film and we almost don't even notice. The author really did Mitchell's themes a service with this story. Love it.

Persuasion

April Snow - A quiet gem of a story, peeking into the joys of marriage for Anne and Frederick.

The Philadelphia Story

Caviar Sandwiches and Beer - Splendid tale of the war, told using letters between Tracy, Mike, Liz, and good ol' C.K. Take a few minutes to read this and you'll spend the afternoon imagining a homecoming.

Watchmen

But Not Forgotten - A dark, melodic tale of Dan Dreiburg and Walter Kovacs. It will make you want more.

You've Got Mail

140 Characters - I think the reason I like this one so much is that, like the movie, it takes an increasingly common communication tool and hits right at why it works and why it's catching on. Moreover, this is a great "where are they now" kind of tale. I love it, and hope you do, too.

корабли.

current song: Massive Attack - Dissolved Girl | Powered by Last.fm

I liked this question, so I'm keeping it out.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"This whole damn world can fall apart. You'll be okay, follow your heart." -New Radicals

"I'm on your side until my body drains of blood." - House of Heroes

" If heaven and hell decide
that they're both satisfied
Illuminate the 'No's' on the Vacancy sign
if there's no one beside you
when your soul embarks
then I'll follow you
into the dark." -Death Cab for Cutie

I have a new leather jacket that fits great with the exception of the sleeves. Every jacket I tried on had sleeves that were a little to long so I need to find somewhere to take my jacket to have the sleeves taken up an inch or two.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a place that will alter my jacket and not screw it up? I need to have the jacket back by the 31st.

сегодня я поняла такую вещь, что если уж находится человек, который тебя очень любит.
где-то на другом конце твоего мира есть еще один - который с такой же степенью тебя ненавидит.
50 на 50.
все поровну.

Had a very delightful Hogswatch complete with electric pig atop tree. I love making fictional holidays real. There was dinner and fun and I got some lovely gifts.

Today, going to visit biofamily which is a bit nervewracking, but I hope it will go well. Nothing particularly clever to say right now, but it shall do.

Goren and Eames past Prairie story request
by eames_goren ([info]eames_goren)
at December 26th, 2009 (12:34 am)

The title could be Barren Land or Waste Land or The Prairie.

How about another setting story, were takes place in the past on the prairie, Eames is a widow, trying to make it on her own to farm the land and take care of the house, chop wood, hunt, do all the chores, she is very tired, Goren could be a hired hand looking for work, she isn't very trusting of him at first, because she is a woman living alone and he is a big guy, but she needs the help, so she hires him, for payment, she gives him food, water and shelter. he has to sleep out in the shed. but he comes in for meals, throughout the story she begins to trust him and lets him sleep in the house, it could be a friendship, angst or romance story! or how about she is skiddish around him doesn't make eye contact because he finds out that when her husband was alive he abused her, he gets her to trust him, or she has become pregnant with her than husband's baby and he helps her through the pregnancy.
